Sourav Ganguly and Ravi Shastri’s apparent heated relationship still seems to be an ongoing affair during the selection process for head coach of the Indian cricket team.
According to DNA, as former India Team Director Ravi Shastri was appointed the head coach for Team India, there was much dispute with regards to the appointment for the bowling coach. While Ravi Shastri was gunning for Bharat Arun, Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) member Sourav Ganguly had set his eyes on former teammate Zaheer Khan. What further came as a much bigger surprise was the selection of the U-19 team coach Rahul Dravid as the batting consultant for India’s overseas tours.
As it is known the CAC is responsible for the selection of India’s head coach. CAC comprises of a panel with names including Sourav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman.Five applications – Ravi Shastri, Virender Sehwag, Tom Moody, Lalchand Rajput and Richard Pybus – were interviewed for the post on Monday.
Apparently during Ravi Shastri’s interview on Skype, Sourav Ganguly and him got into a heated argument wherein Ganguly told Shastri that should he get the post as coach, the support staff would not be of his choice.
It was decided by the BCCI, that the appointed coach for the Indian cricket team would stay till the 2019 World Cup.
