The robber was identified as Ali Asghar. He was one of the gang of robbers who attempted to snatch a Toyota Corolla car from a man identified as Imtiaz near Sultan Masjid, at the intersection of Khayaban-e-Badar and Khayaban-e-Hafiz, SP Malhi said.

“Initially, Imtiaz offered resistance in a bid to save himself from being mugged and in the meantime the police also responded promptly,” he explained. “Shaheen Force – the motorcycle police unit deployed around shopping centres to tackle street crime – faced off with the robbers.”

Upon facing resistance, the robbers shot and injured Imtiaz, the police officer added. He said that when the police reached the scene, the robbers opened fire on them as well. “Both the casualty and the injury occurred due to the fire from the robbers’ weapons,” said SP Malhi.
